Project Description:

A longtime staple of Pittsburgh’s Larimer neighborhood, LA Grocery has served as a trusted destination for Caribbean food and groceries for more than two decades. As part of an effort to expand its services and strengthen its connection to the surrounding community, a 600-square-foot addition transforms the existing single-story grocery into a destination for prepared food and neighborhood gathering.

The new addition is anchored by a fully equipped commercial kitchen, hot food bar, and walk-in cooler, allowing LA Grocery to expand its offerings to include freshly prepared take-out meals and snacks. Complementing the interior program, a welcoming outdoor seating area along the front porch provides an opportunity for customers to gather, dine, and connect within the neighborhood.

Designed as a modest yet impactful expansion, the project builds upon LA Grocery’s longstanding presence while creating new opportunities for food access, community interaction, and local entrepreneurship in Larimer.
